7 Benefits of using Baking Soda for Your Health*


In my quest for a healthier lifestyle, I’ve come across some very interesting finds. The benefits of drinking baking soda are one of them.

I’ve already started discussing this simple health regimen in one of my blog posts and I want to delve deeper into the “medicinal” values of baking soda. Some of which just might be life saving!

So here we go!

The Big C – Cancer.

Doctors and health care practitioners have begun to use baking soda as a treatment for certain cancers such as cancer of the digestive tract, including cancers of the throat, colon, intestines, rectal area, and other forms of cancers.


In an paper released from The Truth Cancer dot com, they go into great depth and outline how drinking baking soda positively impacts the pH of the blood from acidic to alkaline and directly impacts tumor growth. You can read about it here.

There are also several books available documenting the association between baking soda and cancer.

What do you think makes up most over-the-counter antacids? Yes, bicarbonate is one of those components. In general, these antacids are made up of other ingredients to form commercial products.

If you want a simple, cost-effective and easy way to deal with the likes of heartburn or indigestion, stir half a teaspoon of baking soda into half a cup of water and drink after meals. • Skin irritations? Not a problem!

Baking soda is known to treat certain dermatological conditions. Researchers have found that it soothes itchiness and irritation caused by psoriasis —a condition in which skin cells build up and form scales and itchy, dry patches. A paste (made with water and baking soda), can reduce discomfort caused by allergic rashes, sunburn, insect bites, among others. You can also use the same paste as a skin exfoliant. • Natural deodorant has never been this easy!

A teaspoon of baking soda with water for a milky liquid is all you need for a deodorant. You can use this by rubbing it on your feet and underarms. Toothpaste and Mouthwash.

Baking Soda and Xylitol

Baking soda is a great go to for teeth whitening plaque removal. Throw in a little Xylitol for additional teeth benefits and cavity defying sweetness and you have a winning combination.

It is not recommended to just dip your toothbrush into baking soda and use it as a replacement for commercial products.

It has been reported that over time, excessive use of baking soda will damage your tooth enamel. I have yet to have this problem but better safe than sorry. Want to get that extra boost during exercise?

Intake of baking soda before any athletic activity will buffer the lactic acid build up in your muscles therefore delaying fatigue. Just a quick reminder (since I’ve included this in one of my posts)

Actual research has been conducted on treatment of sodium bicarbonate (together with usual treatments) to patients with advance kidney conditions.

The treatment actually slowed down the rate of debility in kidney function. Since baking soda keeps the balance of pH levels in the body, less acidity gives you a healthier kidney.
