1. Have a warm and filling breakfast with about 300 – 400 calories. Oatmeal or cereals with fruit can do it, there are lots of choices (even an Egg McMuffin, 290 calories!);
2. Plan for a light evening meal, another 300 – 400 calories, including 2 to 3 ingredients for variety. Do the planning now so temptation won’t strike later;
3. Make your lunch/brunch a leisurely pleasure event – you are going to ‘spend’ 700 – 800 calories on your choice of 3 or 4 different foods: soups, salads, protein, more fruit, even a piece of toast, wafers or other carbs. And take your time enjoying!
The goal is to have a wonderful enjoyable Sunday while consuming about 300 calories less than your weight maintenance target.
Check a weight maintenance calculator: there is one in our reference section below. For a 5’6” woman at 150 pounds and a light exercise profile, weight maintenance intake might be 1,800 calories or so.
The idea would be to plan your day so as to use about 300 calories less than your weight maintenance level, or 1,500 in this case: 400/800/300 breakfast/lunch/dinner would do it!
How does this work? On the rule of thumb that 3,500 calories equals a pound, 52 beautiful Sundays will save us 4 or 5 pounds a year!

Food comes in all shades and hues. Whether red, yellow, purple or green, there are many excellent foods that combine high nutritional values, modest calories and often extra benefits, like improved skin – bonus!
Here is how your colored food day works:
1. Pick a day of the week convenient to you during which you can readily manage what you eat 2. Pick a color on which you are going to focus your eating that day 3. Make a list of foods you like that are based around that color 4. Plan to use foods of the selected color in each meal
Most of our color foods are low calories, low fat and healthy! By making sure you use the chosen color in each meal on Color Day, you can easily save 400 calories that day or a pound or two every three months. NB don’t avoid proteins or you may get hungry.

Reds – berries, including cherries, strawberries, raspberries, and foods like peppers, tomatoes, beets, apples….red foods come in all shapes and sizes! Greens - green beans, avocados, cucumbers, peas, lettuce…wow, the greens never quit…there are many many more to consider too!
And that’s not to mention white, orange and blues…..

Lose 10-20 pounds magically tip #3 – Pick one food you love and DON’T eat it for a month
We all have our go to foods —go to when we are rushed, when we are depressed, when we are celebrating, or just cause we like them so much!
Mine is peanut butter chocolate chunk cookies. Oh, and popcorn with lots of olive oil and pizza. Oh yeaah. And oooie gooie protein bars —which is my substitute for a candy bar.
These go to foods may not be too ‘bad’ for us but are probably becoming a habit. It’s a good idea to break habits that involve caloric intake so they don’t get out of hand.
If you have a hard time breaking away from your food favorites, you will want to find a food to switch into. Because ‘habit foods’ are usually high fat or high sugar. Healthier and fulfilling foods you switch into will definitely help you lose weight.
List your habit foods and figure how many calories you are consuming a week. Your goal: cut that by 50 calories a day by habit substitution – find a fun food that is a change of pace!
Yes, 50 calories a day! That’s another 4 to 5 pounds a year —hey you can practically inhale 50 calories from the air— that’s easy! But it starts with changing those habit foods!

But make them protein based not carbohydrate.
