How to Get Motivated? 14 Proven Ways to Motivational Heaven!*

Yes now! If you want to get motivated then ‘NOW’ needs to be a popular word in your vocabulary. So let’s cut the procrastination and get right to it. Here I give you “14 Proven Ways You Can Get Motivated and Stay that Way”. Let’s dive into it!

1. What do you truly enjoy?

 

Do you love to paint? Do you love to roam around and explore? Make some time and do it! Add it to your daily routine. You can achieve more when you are excited. Set the mood. When you love what you do, it’s easier to be motivated to do it. You deserve to be happy and live a life that you can enjoy living.

2. Remind yourself everyday what you want why you want it!

Make a list of what you want to achieve. Now make a list of reasons why it is important for you to achieve what you want to achieve. Plan out how you want to go about achieving them. Print it out and put it somewhere you will see daily; in your office or on your phone.

3. Subtract Negativity!

 

This one is not news to you but it is worth repeating. Cut out the negative thoughts and influences. Your confidence and self-esteem are at risk, protect them. This may include staying away from negative friends and may reach as far as getting rid of the things you watch and listen to that does not embody your goals.
 
Rick Hanson, Ph.D., a Neuropsychologist, founder of the Wellspring Institute for Neuroscience and Contemplative Wisdom, and New York Times best-selling author, states that humans are naturally geared to a negative bias
[1]. Our primitive nature is to focus on the bad and discard the good. You need a good amount of disciple and will power to ignore the negative thoughts and comments. Just make this one change and you won’t regret again in your life! Trust me!

4. Complete an Easy Task to Keep the Momentum Going!

Find an easy task and complete it. That small achievement will boast your confidence and motivate you to reach your goals. It can be as simple as cleaning your work space or sorting out your work clothes. This will give you momentum that will keep you going through the hard times as well!

5. Rise Up Sleepy Heads!
 

“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy weather and wise”. This famous quote by Benjamin Franklin is very true. Research shows that people who wake up early are more productive at work and are healthier, mentally and physically[2]. One reason for that is you have more time to prepare for your day. Rushing out the house can start off your day with stress. So sleep like a log and dream big!

6. Do some reflecting.

Nature is the best place to recharge your mind. You can also listen to soothing music; this is a proven method to relax the mind. Take a walk outside, to a near by park or beach. Sort out your priorities. Are there bad habits hindering you from achieving your goals? Blaming others for your mistakes or procrastination; what are they? Think of practical ways to overcome them.

7. Recharge Yourself with the Right Diet!

 

No engine can run efficiently if it’s not given the right fuel. What is your diet like? Your brain is your powerhouse and to keep it running at peak performance, you need to eat healthy. Stay away from sugar, fats and junk.

8. No Compromise on Sleep!

Get some good sleep. The kind of sleep you need is deep REM sleep that repairs and rejuvenates your body for the next day. Your best hours of sleep are before 11 pm. Experts agree that every hour of sleep before midnight is equal to two hours of sleep after midnight[3]. Don’t stay up late.

9. Don’t be Shy; Share with a Friend!

Try sharing your goals with a friend and maybe have them share theirs with you. That way, you can remind your friends of his or her goals and they can do the same for you. You may notice that just remembering to check up on them reminds you of yours.

10. Be active!

Exercise is good for your health; make it your daily habit. Instead of taking the elevator every day, try using the stairs a couple times. This will not only make you feel better but it is good for you. When you’re not the only one noticing the physical results of exercising; you will be hooked.

 


11. Keep Your Focus and Your Eye on Your Prize

Focus! I think that’s the most important thing in the equation of success. Practice this by completing one task before moving onto another, and giving yourself a deadline. When reflecting on your achievement it is more motivating to have a few completed tasks than a long list of uncompleted ones.

12. Reward yourself.

Create your own appraisal system and stick to it. B.F. Skinner, a major contributor to the reinforcement theory, stated that if a behavior is followed by reinforcement, that behavior is more likely to be repeated. Rewarding yourself encourages you to meet other goals you have set for yourself.

13. Read One Motivational Quote Each day!

Motivational and inspirational quotes are an easy way to encourage you to keep striving towards your goal. Read one each day. There is one to start you off ‘A river cuts through a rock not because of its power but its persistence’.

14. Exercise your will power.

 

One of my favorite authors puts it this way “The will is the governing power in the nature of man, bringing all the other faculties under its sway. The will is not the taste or the inclination, but it is the deciding power which works in the children of men” - E G White.

 

There’s a simple way to exercise your will power. Choose one unhealthy food you eat and decide to stop eating it. Practice avoiding it and saying no when offered. This will increase your discipline level, and empower you to become anything you choose. Make that decisions and stick to it.
