It’s one of Cleopatra’s anti-aging and beauty secrets: Dead Sea Skincare.
When Mark Anthony gave Cleopatra (the Queen of the Nile) the Dead Sea Territory, she was able to charge for mining rights to its salts and minerals.
And during the reign of Herod the Great, the Dead Sea was the first health resort in the world!
There are so many health and beauty benefits that we can get from this hyper saline lake that the beauty and cosmetic industry has flocked to develop Dead Sea products to cater to the needs and desires of millions of people around the world.
As the saying goes, if the masses can't get to the Dead Sea, bring the Dead Sea to the masses.
So how do these Dead Sea products for gorgeous skin and hair benefit us? Read on below. There are different kinds of Dead Sea products: they range from sea salts, sea mud, sea water, and even sea soap. In this post, I will cover their effects on skin and hair.
Let's first address the pink elephant in the Dead Sea. One would think that salts would have a drying effect on the skin. OHHH contraire!
Let me explain. Typical table salt is mostly sodium chloride, which is very dehydrating aka drying to the skin.
Salts from the Dead Sea are mineral salts and chock full of Calcium and Magnesium which are essential in super supporting the skins natural barrier function against the environment, which in turn, helps to keep moisture and hydration in. Dead Sea products also have high sulfur content which is very suitable for skin cleansing especially those with an acne condition.
Dead Sea salts regimen paired with a Dead Sea facial mask can cleanse and in an ideal world, banish acne (as well as blackheads!) more effectively than most acne products in the market can. Having skin issues? Let me guess… its dry skin isn’t it?
There’s no question about it. Once your skin is not hydrated properly, it will go into aging hyper drive. And no one wants that! Dead Sea products elevate the flow of oxygen and therefore circulate better the nutrients in the top layer of the skin. Regularly scheduled body soaks in Dead Sea salt baths paired with your favorite moisturizer can relieve notoriously dry skin.
Here's a flash! When you have dry skin, you tend to have dry scalp. This dehydration can be the cause of abnormal hair loss. The unique composition of the salt and mud from the Dead Sea helps in turning around scalp maladies. When you get better blood circulation in the scalp, it will increase the opportunity for your hair to get the proper nutrients it needs to grow healthy. This may prevent hair loss or reverse it. Dead Sea products provide skin cell detoxification and skin tissue cleansing. Therefore these products have anti-aging benefits. The detoxification property makes you look and feel younger because it rejuvenates the skin. Not only does it detoxify, it also augments the skin’s elasticity. You know what this means – fewer wrinkles! And how can you have gorgeous skin if you are inflicted with skin allergies or insect bites? Well, the elevated Magnesium and Bromine content in the Dead Sea salt can help you with that since they cleanse and detoxify at the same time. Dead Sea minerals help draw out impurities as well as lessen inflammation. If you’ve got a flaky scalp – most commonly called dandruff – Dead Sea products can help fix that! Again, it has high sulfur content and combined with other minerals inherent to it, it will help bring back the cell balance in your scalp.
So there you have it! I hope my post Dead Sea Products for Gorgeous Skin and Hair will encourage you to try out these amazing products.
If you are more inclined to make your own Dead Sea products, by all means, go ahead! There are so many recipes online but you can try starting with the recipe below. Perfect as a total body exfoliator. Enjoy! What you need: - 1 pound Dead Sea salts (at least) - Essential Oils – with aromatherapy benefits, are best. Try Jasmine, Lavender, Orange blossom, Pomegranate, Sandalwood or Frankincense.
Frankincense would be my pick as it has so many anti-aging benefits. - Carrier Oil – this will be your base oil. You have so many to choose from: Jojoba, Olive, Sunflower, Coconut, Shea nut, or Grape seed oil. Choose one that you’re most comfortable in using. What you need to do: Mix your salt with 1 tablespoon of your carrier oil. If you choose to add essential oil to this, add this last. Apply to body and rub, or as I like to say, scrub a dub dub!
Add no more than 10 drops of essential oil to your mixture. Store the mixture in an airtight container if you’re not going to use it immediately.
