Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin - The Perfect One Two Punch Your Skin Will Love you For!

Injections are One Woman's way to look younger.

Why discuss hyaluronic acid and glycerin in the same article? Aren't they the same thing? No, not at all. But they do some of the same things.

Why are they important?  Both protect and nourish your skin. Plus, both are a natural way for your skin and you to look younger.  Years younger.

How So?  Both glycerine and hyaluronic acid bind water and boost hydration. In fact the combination of the two together can erase some of the deepest lines and plump out your skin to that of a younger version of you!

What the two have in common is that both are humectants – and what is a humectant, anyway?

A humectant is like a magnet that can draw moisture from the air around you as well as pull moisture up from deeper layers in the skin. Humectants are anything that keeps things wet (the opposite, a desiccant, keeps things dry fyi). One of the things we want to keep wet, or at least moisturized, is our precious skin. So that’s what a humectant is, and what it can do.

Hyaluronic acid and glycerin are both humectants, but they operate in different, but complementary, ways.

So, What is hyaluronic acid and what's hyaluronic acid good for?

Hyaluronic Acid is a goop-ey, slithery substance that occurs naturally in your body. Your body makes it and the the average person has about half an ounce at any given time.   But that half ounce does an amazing array of tasks. Hyaluronic acid is found in every cell in the tissue at the ends of the bones at the joints; its part of the synovial fluid that lubricates the joints; and it is a key component of the skin’s self-repair capability.

As for hyaluronic acid skin benefits, including it's humectant properties, hyaluronic acid attracts water like few other elements. In fact, it can attract and hold on to a thousand times its weight in water. On your skin, it can serve as a super attractor for the moisture our skin wants and needs. And drawing moisture from the air around you or from deep within can plump away even some of the deepest lines and wrinkles.

Next. What is glycerin and why do we need it anyway?

Glycerin is an alcohol-based liquid that can be produced synthetically, or from plants. On the skin, glycerine promotes a smooth and creamy effect. It is an ‘emollient’, from the Latin word for “making soft”.

You need glycerin as a skin care ingredient because glycerine is one of the most dermatologist recommended moisturizing ingredient there is.  Why? The benefits of glycerine for the skin are plenty.

Glycerine replenishes, restores and protects the skin from environmental elements. It is necessary to maintain and strengthen the moisture barrier of the skin as well as lock that moisture in place.

Glycerin keeps your skin elastic and has the potential to turn ordinary skin skin into beautiful, soft skin.

Glycerin also has medicinal effects in skin treatment for psoriasis and scaly skin.

Plus, few people have a negative reaction to glycerin.

The beauty of combining both glycerine and hyaluronic acid together is that they act on the skin in complementary ways. Hyaluronic acid tends to set on the skin surface retaining moisture on the surface while glycerin, a smaller molecule than hyaluronic acid, can go deeper into the skin and has the ability to pull more water up to just below the surface leaving your skin looking plump and youthful!

Plus glycerin locks in place the moisture topical hyaluronic acid provides while promoting a smooth, moist and hydrating treatment that your skin will remember, and people will notice.

Which is why I call glycerine and hyaluronic acid the perfect one two punch your skin will love you for.

An easy way to get your glycerine and hyaluronic acid is to order a hyaluronic acid serum from Loreal, or an 8oz Asterwood Hyaluronic Acid Serum from Amazon for a really great deal.  (These two hyaluronic Acid serums are my go to. I use both.)   And then apply the HA (Hyaluronic Acid) to your face (and or body) daily and top off with  your favourite glycerine infused moisturizer.

Or, you can get one product that contains both.  The one I use and highly recommend is the hyaluronic acid Cerave Barrier Restoring  Moisturizing Cream, with 3 essential ceremide's.

I really encourage you to use both, as HA and glycerine moisturizers are one of my favourite beauty hacks, that I use daily to wipe away 5-10 years off my appearance temporarily.

Give it a try and let me know how this is working for you!
